Kathleen and Theo met in high school when Kathleen was friends with Theo’s twin sister. Their love story began when they realised their amazing connection (and excellent banter) after finishing school. The pair love spending time with friends, walking the dogs on the beach and exploring new places together.
It was an absolute privilege to create the perfect dress for one of my oldest and dearest friends. Kathleen has a sophisticated beauty about her, so a classic style of dress only made sense. An architectural designer, Kathleen loves structure, simplicity and a clean aesthetic. Her groom Theo is also a fan of simplicity and cleanliness as an electrician.
As with all good things, it took some time before we discovered Kathleen’s perfect dress.
After considering many different dresses, the (very) open-minded bride was able to narrow down three styles that stood out for her at various fittings. To help visualise how each style could work for her, we designed three options.
“I was so surprised by how straightforward the dress planning process was with Sarah! Once we narrowed an infinity of styles down to three specific designs, it especially felt a lot more manageable to choose my dress.”
“It was so fun to have a custom dress made! Being from a design background myself I had some very particular things I wanted, so it was so great to be able to combine everything I liked into my dream dress.”
Kathleen has always been exceptional at organisation, so I knew she would be cool, calm and collected when it came to wedding planning. Her mum gave her a gorgeous wedding planning book when she got engaged, which came along with us to every fitting. She has since told me that sometimes she found the planning of her big day a bit stressful, but she does miss parts of it.
It’s no surprise that Kathleen was radiant on her wedding day, and I was privileged to spend the whole day in her ‘wedding bubble’ as one of her bridesmaids. We all had a beautiful and relaxed morning getting ready with Kathleen’s family. We enjoyed a glass (or two) of champagne and nibbled on some platters between getting hair and makeup done!
A special moment for Kathleen was walking down the aisle to see all of the people who have played a part in her and Theo’s lives somewhere along the way. She loved reflecting on the support all of these people had shown to them both up to this point, and who could witness the start of their life together.
For Kathleen and Theo, the most important thing when it came to celebrating their marriage was about sharing and celebrating their day with their nearest and dearest - their closest friends and family.
The dance after the reception was oh so fun. The happy couple had the best live band, so they could say ‘Au revoir’ to wedding planning, and dance the night away with friends and family!
When I asked Kathleen what closing advice she would give that might help future brides, this is what she said:
“It can be so easy to get wrapped up in the details that don’t actually matter! So to avoid that, think about what your top priorities are for your wedding day and what is most important to you both, then figure everything else out from there.”
